Optimizing Ventilation Monitoring with Hamilton Block Protocol

While we continue to support this protocol on our ventilators, we no longer provide updates nor enhancements for it. However, this protocol has limitations in the number of control settings, monitoring values, modes, and alarms it can transmit. 

In response to frequent customer requests for expanded ventilation parameters, we recommend transitioning to the Hamilton Block Protocol, which offers significant benefits over the Philips VueLink Open Protocol: 

• Expanded Parameter Transmission: Provides twice the number of ventilation parameters compared to the Philips VueLink Open Protocol.
• High‑Resolution Waveform Data: Supports up to eight waveforms with a flow resolution of 0.1 ml/s and volume resolution of 0.1 ml for enhanced monitoring precision.
• Seamless Compatibility: Available on all Hamilton ventilators.
• Future‑Ready Integration: Enables the adoption of new parameters and updates as they become available.

Several customers have already successfully migrated from the Philips VueLink Open Protocol to the Hamilton Block Protocol, and have benefited from more comprehensive data transmission and improved clinical efficiency. 

There are two essential migration requirements: 

• Hardware: EC‑5, Cable Identifier #245 (available for purchase via your local Philips Sales Representative).
• Software: EC‑10, SW ED 245 Rev. A.1 or later (available for download from Philips InCenter at no additional cost; no special hardware modifications required).
