During CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), the initial FiO2 (fraction of inspired oxygen) setting should be the highest feasible inspired O2. This is because cardiac arrest results in a severe lack of oxygen to the body, and providing high levels of oxygen during resuscitation can help improve oxygen delivery to vital organs, such as the brain and heart.

In addition, high levels of oxygen during CPR can help improve the success rate of defibrillation, which is an important component of resuscitation for patients with a shockable rhythm.

This section provides guidelines on the prevention of and ALS treatments for both in-hospital cardiac arrest and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
